Course overview
This course will teach you what ESG actually means across all three pillars, why it has become financially material rather than reputational, and how regulation, investor pressure, and commercial risk now converge on the same set of business decisions. You will learn to define ESG with precision and distinguish it clearly from CSR, sustainability, and the SDGs, terms most professionals use interchangeably and incorrectly. You will learn the four mechanisms through which ESG performance creates or destroys enterprise value, and how to translate each one into language a CFO will take seriously. You will learn to identify the regulatory, investor, customer, and talent forces pushing ESG into the centre of corporate strategy, and how to build a financially literate business case for ESG investment that survives internal scrutiny. The course also teaches you to recognise the early-stage mistakes (greenwashing, siloed ownership, reporting without strategy) that quietly undermine otherwise well-intentioned ESG programmes, so you can spot them before they become reputational liabilities. This is the foundation course in the ANKAA ESG curriculum, the one every other certification builds on.
